Is It Q-Day? A Music Video

I started on this a week ago and a lot has happened: SlopCore, the AI-generated video genre, is ascendant! I love that AI has its own medium. And, while Q-Day is looming as a risk for cryptography, AI has suddenly come to the fore as well. Wonder what next week will bring?

Q-Day forecasts are based on known methods for breaking cryptography with a cryptographically relevant quantum computer. AI may discover new methods not thought of before. AI-Day is probably a real thing, and it is fast approaching. Does this mean Q-Day is no more? Far from it.

AI is already contributing to the accelerating development of quantum computers and quantum information science. We should fully expect that acceleration will continue and the combination of quantum computers driven by AI will lead to new discoveries, and possibly new ways of breaking existing cryptography as well as creating new cryptographic methods.

This video was generated with AI. I worked on it for about a week. My high-level process was:

I generated lyrics with OpenAI’s Astra model, based on my original Notes content. Then I used the final lyric sheet to generate multiple tracks and styles using Suno, selecting a final version for the video. From that, I worked with Astra to define the creative brief and treatment. I sourced a variety of references from generative-video creators including:

I fed all that into Claude and generated a high-level plan and many rough drafts of video for each section of the song. I estimate that I kept about 50% of the original brief during that step. Once I had all the sections of video I started production on the lyrics text including typography, animation, and effects. Following that I added in the HUD, color grading, video effects, and final delivery. All of this was done working with Claude. I estimate that Claude did 98% of the coding, and I did about 75% of the creative direction.

There was a lot of back-and-forth with Claude on:

  • Camera authoring
  • Editing
  • Lighting
  • Style and positioning of elements
  • Audio-reactive design
  • Typography and lyrics
  • Motif and decorations
  • Color grading
  • Post-processing and video effects

It’s impressive to see how quickly this AI-native media landscape is emerging.
